MacBook Pro setting default program

I can right click on a file but I don't get 'Get Info'...how can I change the default to MS Excel and stop Numbers trying to open when I get a new spreadsheet? Thanks

No. As I understand the "Get Info" selection is not present in the Finder's File menu, and it's not even "greyed out".


That's just not right. Reinstalling macOS is justified: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support. It should have appeared in a right-click contextual menu anyway.

⌘ i and ⌥ ⌘ i are identical except when applied to a selection of items:


  • When of two or more items are selected, ⌘ ⌥ i will display a single, "Multiple Item Info" window.
  • ⌘ i will display individual windows for each one of the selected items.


That still doesn't explain why there is no Get Info menu item in File. There certainly ought to be.
