iWatch messaging

My iWatch is responding green (sms) and iPhone responding blue (iMessage). I’ve restarted, resynced, nothing works. Help!

Iwatch iMessages are black why are my senders text messages black? I can read/see my outgoing text messages but incoming text messages are black font on black background so I can’t read them. I have tried a forced reset of the message app and I have shit off and reopened both I watch and iPhone.

iwatch still getting messages when on `do not disturb` For years my iwatch series 4 didn`t let messages get through when my iphone x was in `do not disturb` mode as they are mirrored which was great. But recently I am getting vibrations on my iwatch in the middle of the night (my family live in Texas). Their messages are precious to me so I don`t want to ask them not to send when it`s night here. And I wear my iwatch all night for sleep and heart data. So why is my iwatch doing this when it even has the `do not disturb` symbol on it`s face? Also, this may be connected, the messages from whatsapp do not often ping or light up iphone screen anymore. The only way I know is through the vibration on my watch. All other apps such as messenger work fine. I hope someone can help
