I updated my computer and now my systems preference will not open. Nor with my messenger app. It shows when I have texts but will not open. My safari and google chrome did not open for a couple of trys but after multiple restarts I got them open.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later. Please post if this worked or not.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
