removing a second apple account

my friend gave me their old iphone. they phone is setup on my apple account, however parts of his account still dominates the phone and his contacts are still on the phone. how do i remove his account completely from the phone?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

The best way is to have your friend do the steps in the article below. That will make it 'your' phone.
