iMessage is not showing my phone number

my phone number that is set on my Apple ID is not appearing in the send and receive section of iMessage and facetime. Therefore, I'm unable to send or receive iMessages or FaceTime calls from my number, my apple id is being shown instead. The number is added in the contactable section of my Apple ID but still not appearing in the iMessage menu or the FaceTime menu. I have tried literally everything. Using iPhone XS Max running iOS 12.3.
