Life 360 will not open Google Maps on iPhone

Life 360 has a feature where you can select a circle member and ask for directions to his/her location. When you do, it gives you the option of opening Maps (Apple), Google Maps and Waze. In my case, Maps from Apple and Waze launch, but the Google Maps option does not work. It simply does nothing.

I am not sure whether this is a permissions problem, buggy software, etc.

Any clues?
