Nordvpn neagent

Hi,

I'm looking into signing up with Nordvpn but am concerned with the fact they want access to my to my keychain/login password through Neagent.

Has anyone had experience with this? it seems a very important password to giveaway.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know that is why I asked. If he is doing regular surfing and email using secure servers such as https he does not need a VPN. If he is trying to bypass corporate or country policies/laws then a VPN may do him some good to achieve his end goal. But until he answers we do not know why he thinks he needs a VPN.

If you are at a public WIFI and you are visiting a secure site using https or ftps for example your data is encrypted. anyway. if you visit an insecure site using http or ftp for example your data is not encrypted.

Using a VPN does not secure your data, If you are using a public VPN then navigating to an insecure site such as an http site then at some point your data leaves the VPN to connect to the insecure destination, so your data is no longer secure just as though you never used the VPN.

So unless you are connecting to a corporate network or by-passing country restrictions then the VPN is doing you no good. The real value of a VPN is when connecting point to point so that your computer becomes a node on the remote network. So if you are at a coffee shop or other public WIFI and you are using a VPN tpo connect to your corporate office network then a VPN makes sense and should be used. If you are at a coffee shop or using a public WIFI and you are connecting to a secure site then your data is encrypted and secure even when not using a VPN.

Correct. If I want to log into or buy something from a secure site my login or payment data is hidden, as long as I'm using a secure site. If I am buying from http://joesdarkalleyinsecuresite.invalid then my payment information is visible. If I'm buying from https://joessecuresite.invalid then my payment information is not visible even though I am accessing from a coffee shop.

Indeed if you are using properly setup https sites then they should not be able to see your password or the content of the pages you are viewing. However people might be able to see the URLs you are visiting which might be embarrassing or other.

There are still also some sites that are not using https for all their content although this number is thankfully shrinking.
