It is possible to force quit an app which is misbehaving or unresponsive,

Press and hold the side button until the Power Off screen appears. Then press and hold the Digital Crown to terminate the app which was foreground when you started.

However, this is not a recommended solution and in most cases where things are misbehaving you will get a better result by forced reset on the watch. (Press and hold the Digital Crown and side button together, until the Apple logo appears).

If you are trying to close an app because it is unwanted, be aware the watch will probably restart it automatically in the background. The correct solution for unwanted apps is to uninstall them, or simply let the watch manage the process automatically.

No, they are not. They are not really running in the background, just like on the iPhone. They are suspended, and are just available to use again more easily. Actually, force closing an app and then starting it again uses more battery than opening it from suspension. The iPhone and Apple Watch are configured to handle RAM usage, and will allow apps to be in suspension until the device needs more RAM for a running app, or starting a new one. Force closing makes the phone work harder than handling the RAM on its own.

As you can only have 10 in the dock anyway. I can see the need for clearing it. You can have your favourites instead. As this is permanently there can be a pain if you use others. As for closing the apps as I understand it it similar to closing apps on iPhone, but I beg to differ. Which model of Apple Watch do you have Branta_uk? Personally have the first generation and Nike 4.
