Restore iPhone Backup from External Hard Drive

Hello, all

I have backed up my iPhone to my external hard drive.

Now, when I go to drag and download it (from the ExtHD) back in the iTunes location so that I can backup my new iPhone XS, it says it cannot download as there is "not enough disc space to download backup." However, there is enough space available. I need 92GB and my MacBook Pro HD has 140GB available.

I have read that this can be due to changing Alias or copying files to different locations, creating this "error."

Can someone tell me in more detail how to navigate this error?

Thank you in advance! I greatly appreciate your help!

Hello, Chris

I followed a blog from:

https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphone/back-up-iphone-ipad-external-drive-3692773/

I copied the Backup out of my Library/ApplicationSupport/MobileSync folder and put it into my ExtHD folder.

Then I wrote a program in the 'Terminal' under my Utilities folder that looked like this:

ln -s /Volumes/ExternalHD/iPhoneBackup/Backup/ ~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup

Then I went to a different blog and tried to follow those directions which said to drop the ExtHD Backup folder (from my old phone backup) into the iTunes folder - that is when it said I do not have enough space.

Thank you again for your advice!
