TimeMachine backup after Mojave 10.14.5 Supplemental Update

Hi, I made the OSX 10.14.5 supplemental update last week (MacBookPro 2018). I made a TimeMachine backup today and TimeMachine backed up about 177GB, even there was only about 4GB files new/altered files after the last TimeMachine backup.

Can the huge backup be due to the supplemental update? Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Thanks in advance!

Yes.

Really no need to micro manage TM backups, it will take care of itself, it is meant to be easy.

@leroydouglas Thank you for your reply!

I'm not sure if you understood my question. I had done previous TimeMachine back up two weeks ago to the same TimeMachine drive, and since that I've got in my computer new/altered files for about 4GB. But the last TimeMachine backup was 177GB, instead of only those 4GB. So there was a huge difference between the backup amount and files needed to be backed up.

So, are you saying that the Supplemental Update altered files in my machine for more than 170GB?

I already have three TimeMachine backup drives, so I think I'm safe in that aspect. Now it's only a question what really happened this time in TimeMachine backup. I've never experienced such a huge backup amount after any OSX update.
