I second KiltedTim. Using a wet cloth seems to smear things more than truly clean it off. I usually use a dry paper towel to get any large debris off, then use a lens cloth to get all the smudges off.

I use the same lens wipes I use for my glasses and camera lenses. Available at any drug store.
