Do you have Wifi turned on?

Even if you are connected using an Ethernet cable, Location Services still needs Wifi in order to work.

Your mac, unlike your iPhone, does not have GPS, so it uses info about the available Wifi networks to determine your location.

Here is what I get on my mac when I turn Wifi off:

On a Mac, location can be determined by two items:

-If on ethernet, what ever your ISP "hub" is that your are connected

too, you will get that location. Depending on where you live, that

can be close by or very far away.

-WiFi location data. This can only be available if the WiFi router either

has a GPS or if it is an ISP provided router and only if the ISP provides

it with its exact location. These devices are required to have location data.

Bottomline, your Mac may actually give correct location info or it may not.

The only "guarantee" that you will have an accurate location is if you are

using your cell phone as a WiFi hotspot or another cellular based hotspot.
