slow boot up with USB SSD

i checked connection speed before, and the drive is connected directly to the mac, no hub.

i did actually try an SMC reset before, too, but obviously i did not wait long enough while power was disconnected. so, trying it again now seems to have worked. great!

no bootup unless both USB drives (SSD and HD) are disconnected. only then bootup is fast.
