Lagging MacBook Air

My MacBook Air starts to lag and go really slow if not plugged in to charge once it drops below 70%. The laptop is only 9 months old, has the latest updates and everything is backed up to a hard drive as well as iCloud so there is still plenty of storage left on the device itself.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?
