As long as the tracks don't come from the Apple Music subscription service, you can simply drag and drop the songs from the iTunes window onto the usb drive.
Alternatively you can copy the files from the iTunes Media folder onto the USB drive., just lie you would any other file.
Consult your car's manual for any details regarding any folder structure the car's media center may require to find the songs in.

The blue text in my previous post is a link to a Windows script that can handle the export to a folder adding leading index numbers. For Mac try M3Unify.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I did manage to do a drag and drop but all the songs transferred as mp4 (which won't play in my car stereo). I did convert them to mp3 with iTunes to a separate folder, but for some reason, even those files transferred as mp4 - weird. Just to keep things interesting, I'm moving back and forth between a Mac and a PC.
I don't have an "Export to folder" in iTunes, all I can do is "export" with choices: plain text, unicode text, XML, M3U or M3U8 - none of which I am familiar with. I'm using iTunes 12.8. The XML seems to be used to do export/import within iTunes.
Long story short, I did manage to get the mp3 songs onto a usb, but it seemed like a lengthy process. Of course, without your advice, it wouldn't have happened at all, so thanks again.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I don't have Apple Music (frankly, once I realized it didn't allow you to download, but only to listen, I wondered why anyone would bother ???).
I did manage to get the songs onto a usb, but I confess it was a rather lengthy process - converting to mp3 and then re-numbering the songs so they'd transfer in the right order (which didn't work, since iTunes transferred them in the order they were on the original album...ugh). Never mind, I got it done, thanks to your advice, so thanks again.

You should be drag and drop from iTunes to a folder of your choice. That should copy all of the files into the folder with their original names which might work for you. Use ExportToFolder if you want more control over the pattern of the exported files, e.g. a leading index number so tracks play in order.
