This device becomes very hot on top on the back. Much more than one would expect.

Heat is normal when you’re using it or charging it. A good benchmark is ‘too hot to handle’, if it ever becomes so hot you cannot comfortably hold it, then it’s time to make an appointment and take it into the pros to have it checked out.
