Hi. I have a 2011 27inch iMac with thunderbolt port and wish to connect my 2016 Macbook with USB-C (not Thuderbolt 3) port to it in order to use the iMac as a monitor. Is it possible and if so which adapter do I need? tried the apple thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and no luck. Thanks

This adapter is not compatible with USB-C ports that don't support Thunderbolt 3, such as USB-C hubs or the USB-C port on MacBook models from 2015 or later.

Using the 2011 iMac as a display requires the other computer to have Thunderbolt. There are no adapters, cables, or converters that will help.
