I tried to add my gmail account to the mail app and it does not respond. It stays on that faded with the 4 switches. All of them are faded. I checked to make sure my account information was correct. Even tried a few suggestions I found online where they say try adding it under exchange. Another one suggested to check to see that your language settings are correct. I can add all other emails but gmail.
what aam I doing wrong?

Google was having issues with gmail and a lot of their other services today. My gmail just started working again on the east coast of the U.S. It appears to still be down for a lot of people.

You can track the status on that website and when it shows mail has been fixed, try adding the account again.
