Using Amazon Kindle offline on outdated iOS (not compatible)

i recently got an ipad 2 (iOS 9.3.5 last available OS available for download) and wanted to install the kindle app, but can't because the kindle app is only compatible with latest release of iOS.

i contacted amazon and didn't get a straight answer, but ultimately discovered that you can access the kindle cloud reader which lets you download up to 50 MB of content onto your device (through web browser) and access offline.
