So Apple is ditching iTunes because it wants us to use streaming. But I use iTunes in many different ways in my studio in parallel to streaming music. So if iTunes is being phased out what is the best ‘proven’ alternative?

iTunes is not going to disappear from existing Macs and systems. In the new OS, not due out until later this year, it will be replaced by several separate apps performing the same functions, but the old ones will continue to work: so you've no need to go hunting for an alternative.
