Question

will gps work without cellular data

We are traveling to Canada, and we won't have cell service available. I have an offline map and route service. I'm wondering if gps will work on my iPhone 6 without cell data.

iPhone 6s, iOS 12

GPS, on iphone, should work (maybe with less accuracy) without using cell data.

It depends on the app or on the road you need to travel. Perhaps, among the skyscrapers of a city, you may have some problems ...

Thanks for getting back, Giulio. I’ve gotten varying responses in other venues. My map app says I don’t need data, but my cell service says gps won’t work without cell data. I will give your suggestion a try. Ed

It depends on the app. Most of apps that can show maps "offline" should be able to work without cell data.

Test yours, enabling airplane mode and turning Wifi ON.
