iPhone 6 and iOS 13 - now what?

Now that Apple has stated iOS 13 WILL NOT be available for the iPhone 6, I am curious what will happen with my device this fall? Will it still work as long as I keep it at iOS 12? What about apps? What about (GASP!) just using it as a phone? I've never been in this situation before but my iPhone 6 is rock solid and has given me ZERO problems for nearly 4 years. I was hoping to keep it going for a while longer, maybe another 15 months until the next generation ones come out (5G perhaps), but I don't know what situation I'll be in when iOS 13 is officially released.
