Picture in Picture While Recording Into iMovie

I'm wanting to create a movie where I'm recording a lecture for an online class I'm teaching but I want slides to be used as a picture in picture. I know I can add these images after I've recorded, but that requires watching the whole thing again and stopping it to add the image and then continuing. I'm wondering if I can add the images as I'm recording, or, have a keynote presentation I use concurrently and change slides as I go along, just like I would if I were using it in a class lecture.

Rich, thanks. I thought about recording it with the slideshow. I want it to be about chest high so I thought about setting up a computer monitor next to me and doing that. I think that may be the simplest and will avoid the extra complications.

Hi, Danny,

I don't know of any way to add Picture in Picture images while you are recording the lecture. Adding the images after recording the lecture would certainly work, as you have said. As for "watching the whole thing again", I would think that you would need to do that anyway before displaying your final product.

I think the easiest way might be to record yourself displaying the slide show on screen as you go along. Other than as you have mentioned I don't see any other feasible way for you to be able to interact and refer to the slide show as you are talking.

Possibly others who have had experience doing what you describe will chime in here.

I wonder if playing it on my iPhone and running it through AppleTV to the monitor would be the simplest option. That way I don't need to try and set up another computer.

No way of telling until you try it. It's not something I have done. You also can try plugging your laptop into the monitor and then running the movie from your computer.
