How do I stop Facebook messenger pop-ups on Safari?

I'm not a Facebook user, and have no Facebook account.

When browsing certain websites on Safari I get an annoying pop-up in the bottom left of the screen inviting me to chat with the website owner on "messenger".

I click the cross in the top right of the window, and the pop-up disappears, only to re-appear again immediately.

How do I permanently get rid of these pop-ups, ideally on all websites I visit. I have no desire to"log on to Facebook Messenger" as they suggest.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

Thank you for your reply rcosta887.

No, I don't think it's via the Notification Centre. The website does not have permission in the Notification Centre, and neither does Facebook. Also the alerts do not appear in the Notification Centre. They appear in a little window which appears at the bottom right of the screen. Like this:

It seems to be a message from Facebook, and not to do with the Mac. As I said, I am not a Facebook user, and have no account with Facebook.

Furthermore, I have blocked pop-ups from this website (see screen shot below) but this irritating pop up still appears. I also have an adblocker (AdBlock), which is usually effective at stopping pop-up windows, but not this one.

This seems to have started happening on various websites recently.

It's totally useless, as I do not intend to create an account on Facebook Messenger, nor to have an account with Facebook.

All help welcome.

That's helpful Mr Root, thank you for replying with the useful links.

I shall be very cautious about entering data in such pop-ups.

I believe this is an authentic pop-up initiated by the legimate retail website I was visiting. They wish to chat to me via Facebook. The pop-up does not ask me to enter any data. It just asks me to log on to Facebook, which I do not do. So it keeps asking again and again.

When I navigate away from this website, the pop-up goes away.

I think the simplest thing is just to avoid using such websites which wish me to communicate with me in Facebook.

It's their loss. They lost my custom by annoying me.
