Phone number spoofed?

My wife received a call that came up on her phone as if it was from me. But it wasn't me. It was a random guy that asked for her by name and then accused her of hitting his car. She hung up on him. My phone doesn't show this call in my phone logs but it shows up on her phone logs with my name & number. How is this possible? I have an iphone u6. She has an iphone 5. Both phones are up to date on software updates and neither is jailbroken

It could be spoofing, or it could be a glitch in the caller ID recognition and display on your wife’s phone. The only possible trace on the call to find the real origin would be through your network, and they are unlikely to even attempt that without a court order. There is no practical way you will ever get to the bottom of it, so put it down as one of those strange events and move on.
