used ipad reset to factory

i got a used ipad off my wifes boss . her sone use to own it but left it behind and he doesn't remember any info and neither does the mother . so I need to reset it to factory so I can sing in on it and give it to my 8 year old for her birthday .

if the boss don't remove the actication lock you will never be able to use it
