message says voicemail is full but the screen is empty and says no voicemail

That means that the voicemail server in your carrier's network is full. It has gotten out of sync with your phone. Log in to the server by calling your own number or holding "1" on the dialpad, then follow the instructions to listen to and delete your messages. Normally clearing the messages will fix the problem. But note that you must have cellular data enabled when deleting voicemails from the phone.
