OCR - Best App From App Store - Need Guidance

Basically, in my work I off and on receive scans that are PDF (usually in batches). They (the scans , i.e., not regular PDFs created from other apps) are not searchable. I've used Adobe Acrobat Pro for years to do character recognition in those sorts of scans, and/or convert the scans to Word and work from there. Acrobat Pro is 32 bit, and out of Adobe's update cycle ( I paid for it as a standalone years ago). I refuse to subscribe to an Adobe service and pay a monthly fee for something that I use sporadically.

Having said as much ... the Question:

The App store has many OCR and convert-to-Word apps available. Some are free; some cost; some cost a lot. I don't mind paying for quality; I don't have time to do trial runs on several different apps. If someone (or hopefully more than one) has any real good suggestions on the best app to use to suit the needs I've expressed (make scans searchable and when need be convert them to Word without a lot of garbled text), please make a recommendation.
