Creating audio message in messages on 10R

I can't see where to create an audio message in Messages on my new XR in iOS12. Do we really have to go to Voice Memos and do that? If so, why did they do away with it from Messages? I thought it was a cool thing!!!

Where do saved audio from the iMessages app go when saved on iPhone? When someone sends me an audio file via iMessages there's an option to "save" - Where does it go??? it's not in Files nor does it show up in the Voice Memos, like it used to. This question was asked a couple years ago and only had one reply where they explained a workaround where you could email the files to yourself. Yes, I know you can save them to a bunch of diffrent programs on the phone (eg DropBox, OneNote, etc) but I find it hard to belive that the Save function isn't supposed to land them in the Voice Memos. Like it used to do just fine. It just seems like a dumb apple oversight.

iMessage voice/audio file When i save an imessage audio file, where does it go? They used to be visible in the voice memo app, then in the contact files under the attachments tab, but that tab no longer exists after the last ios upgrade. You can still tap and save audio messages, so how can you access them? Still looking for the answer to this question. Since it wasn’t responded to when someone else posted it a while back, I am reposting it here.

Missing Voice Memo option in Messages I have the new iPhone12 Pro with OS 14.2.1. In the messaging app, there is no longer an option to send/respond with a voice memo. Used to be a little mic at right of the text box - gone. Mic at far lower right (below keyboard) just does dictation. Checked out all the app options immediately below the text entry box - nothing for voice memos. Tried editing the available apps list within Messaging - unable to add anything new, only delete. Found nothing useful in Settings for getting voice option back into Messaging. Going all the way out to the Voice Memo app and sharing via messaging is tedious and stupid for a phone of this price point. Anyone out there have a real solution? Thanks.
