Wifi Woes - Mac country code FR instead of GB - Connecting 2.4gz instead of 5gz - UK

Hi


I recently moved into a shared house. There is a Virgin Hub 3.0 with broadband. The guy that lives here already has a windows laptop.


I've noticed that my mac keeps dropping connection even though the connection icon is still engaged. I've also noticed netflix displaying in a very low res way before correcting itself. Same with the Now TV app.


Upon investigation, I've noticed that my Mac has an FR wireless country code and that I'm connecting to 2.4gz instead of 5gz. I was living in Spain but that's not France.


Using the info below is anyone able to help me as to why I'm having connection issues and how to resolve them? Thanks!

Hey Jack_Pimiento,


If I understand correctly, you are connecting to a wireless network, and it is randomly dropping its connection. There are a couple things you can try that may be able to help. I would recommend you read these articles and use them to help troubleshoot the issue.


"If your Wi-Fi router supports both bands, it might help to connect more of your Wi-Fi devices to the 5GHz "

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference


Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points


Check for Wi-Fi issues using your Mac

Hi,


Thanks for the info. Setting are all fine.


As you can see above I've done diagnostic tests and you can see that for some reason my Mac is identifying as FR when I'm connected to the internet. Interestingly, I checked earlier and I was on the 5gz and my mac was identifying as GB. So, all good. However, now it's reverted back to the way it was.


What could make my mac identify as FR instead of GB?
