Reset pram/vram with T2 chip ... or not ? :)

Hello everybody :)

I have a stupid question but I could not found anywhere the answer.

I recently changed my old MBP late 2013 to the new one, with T2 chip.

I wanted to reset the pram and I did like I was used to do with the old one that is :

  • power on
  • press CMD ALT P R keys
  • wait for the apple logo to disappear
  • released the keys
  • Few seconds later apple logo appears again and the mac boot normally

Then I saw on the Apple website that for T2 chips MBP you should wait until the Apple logo appears/disappears a second time before releasing the keys...

So my stupid question is : did it do something bad/good or just nothing as I only waited for one logo cycle ?

Thanks for your insights !

Hi Grobaouche,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see you have a question about resetting your NVRAM.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to make sure you're resetting the NVRAM correctly for your Mac with a T2 chip. This resource, titled Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac, states the following:

Based on this, you would need to follow the procedure above (release after the logo appears/disappears twice) to complete the reset. It wouldn't negatively impact your Mac in any way to release the keys earlier than described, but you'd want to use those exact steps to complete the NVRAM reset.

I hope I've answered your question. Take care.
