Macbook keys are getting typed automatically

Random keys are getting pressed in my macbook air. When I use the virtual keyboard, I can see that at one point of time the letter 'w' will be pressed. After a few days, the number '9' will be pressed etc. My laptop keys are not physically pressed down. Is this a hardware or software issue? How to resolve it?
