Please help! Frozen white screen accidentally pressed command r no backup!

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. My MacBook is old and I was getting the frozen white screen. So I researched how to fix it and I didn’t have it backed up and it appears that I reset it to factory settings. I was trying to be careful because I had not been successful at backing up my files due to it not allowing me to do a software update. Anyway, can anyone tell me if I can undo this? All I care about are the 7-8 years worth of photos and videos of my kids that are priceless. Thanks in advance 👏🏻

Hi Travel4kk,

If I've read your question correctly, your Mac has been frozen and displayed a white screen. You think you've reset it to factory settings and need to recover your data.

Truly resetting your Mac requires you to erase your internal drive in Disk Utility and then reinstall macOS. If you didn't use Disk Utility or Terminal at all in Recovery Mode, your data should be safe, even if your Mac can't boot. Have you used either of these utilities when you tried to fix your Mac?
