Migration Assistant

When using migration assistant for pictures, will all my organized folders in the photos application on my old computer transfer as is to my new computer or will it just transfer as one big photo library?

If you use Migration Assistant to transfer the documents and data from one Mac to another, the folders in your home folder should look exactly as they have been on your old mac after the migration. If you had separate folders with image in your Pictures folder, you will find similar separate folders on the new mac, and if you had a Photos Library on the old Mac, you will find a Photos Library on the new Mac.

The Photos Library may need upgrading, if your old Mac had an older system version installed. But that should not make much difference.

If you can use the Setup Assistant, not the Migration Assistant. The Setup Assistant will run, directly after yu start up your new Mac, before you are creating any user account. If you let the Setup Assistant migrate all documents and data then, you will have less problems with the file ownership. If you first set up the mac and create a user account and use the migration Assistant later, your documents will be migrated to a different user account and the ownership will be different.
