Hi mikemjc,
I understand that this is happening on your Mac rather than on an iOS device. Does the issue happen when using Safari instead of Google Chrome? If not, check for an app update in the Mac App Store. You can even take some of the same steps you would for an iOS device. For instance, restart your Mac and try deleting, then reinstalling the app.
You can also force the app to quit before making a FaceTime call: How to force an app to quit on your Mac
If the issue happens in multiple web browsers, try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and the NVRAM.

Lastly, test the issue in a new user account. Here’s how: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
Take care.

This may be a Chrome bug fixed in version 76: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=961308
Hi mikemjc,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like YouTube unexpectedly plays when making a FaceTime call.
I’d love to lend a hand, and recommend that you take each of these steps with the YouTube app: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open. While your app isn't quitting unexpectedly, checking for an update in the App Store, force quitting the app, restarting your device, and deleting, then reinstalling the app can resolve many unique issues.
Take care.
This also happens with Opera browser
I have this happen when I get a phone call on my Mac Desktop too. The YouTube videos start playing on Google Chrome. So when I answer the call, I have to find which YouTube videos are playing so I can pause them. I haven't found a solution to this either.
Same issue, whenever I get a call via FaceTime or a phone call the is also ringing on my desktop, youtube videos will start playing. I believe that this might also be happening with Spotify. Have to test this to make sure, though.
Hi Chris
Sorry, I did not make myself very clear. This problem with Facetime and Youtube occurs on my iMac, not on on an iPhone etc.
Cheers
Mike
