Internal speakers stuck on mute in MacOS, but not in Ubuntu

I broke the headphonejack and now only sound is coming on one channel. Not the worst thing. However, since I broke the jack, the internal speakers are permantly on mute and only digital-out is displayed.

So, for fun I tried out Ubuntu on this MacBook and suddenly the internal speakers work just fine. Going back to OS X and I have the same problem as before. But why?! Is their any way to use the drivers of Ubuntu in Mac OS X?

For the record:

  • tried the toothpick method, there is no red light in the jack
  • reinstalled Mac, even on a different harddrive, still no change
  • Its a MacBook mid 2009
  • on Ubuntu, Linux, Android, it works just fine
  • when installing bootcamp support software the internal speakers also do not work in windows
