Invalid phone number

Sorry to hear you're still having trouble :(

I can try and explain what I did a bit more.. I had to update my credit card (as I got a new card)

When I entered the card info the message came up "Invalid phone number" even though it accepted my phone number a few years back.

So in this case (for Iphone) and australian mobile number:

Settings

Apple ID

Payment and shipping

• Click on Payment method (it will ask for your phone lock code)
• update the card info

... if you click Save and get "Invalid Phone number" then (still in payment and shipping page):

• scroll down to Phone Tab
• Area code: 049
• Number: 0000000
• Then press Save..

AND Hopefully it works!!

I presume it would be the same sort of steps if you're required to update your phone number somewhere else in the settings panels?

In failing all of that.. just call apple support like I had to.

They answered straight away and I think it was also a free call :)

..Or if you live near an apple store go there or can call an apple store..?

i was trying to change my card details and it kept saying the phone number was invalid but then i tried typing in the last 8 digits of my phone number in the phone number box bc i think the first three digits go in the area code box. this worked when i tried it but yeah

I struggled with this very same issue for days. I finally got it to work. If you're using a mobile no., enter like this:

Example:

Area Code (04) Phone Number (12345678)

So it's basically just your normal mobile no. but you put the first 2 digits in the area code section. It seems as though it was designed for land lines only.

I just contacted apple support as I couldnt get anything to work either.

HOW TO FIX: enter the first 3 digits of your phone number in the area code box. Then the rest of the number in the phone number box!

In my case (using an Australian mobile number): Area code box = 049 Phone number box = xxxxxxx

And dont enter your country code, area code or remove any zero's at the start of your number or anything else

Not sure if this works for other countries but this worked for me :)

I tried every suggestion and finally found the answer. Don't waste your time updating credit card details using an iPhone or iPad as you'll come across the 'invalid mobile/cellphone number' reply. The solution? Grab a laptop or desktop PC/Mac and it'll take 20 -30 seconds, tops, from the Apple ID login page. This seems to happen if you've changed your country on your Apple ID page. Why? Ask Cupertino.

I had the same problem and solved it by just adding the payment method on Appstore through my computer. The payment method, address etc were updated on the iPhone simultaneously. Hope this helps

i don't know how many digits everyone's phone numbers are but just try taking off the first two digits or more until it works.

for me, in Australia, if my number was 0412 111 333, then I would put

area code: 61

phone number: 12111333

I added a new method of payment instead of editing the existing one. When I scrolled down, my number was already entered in this format:

xxx-xxxxxx

I guess the '-' makes the number valid

I had this same issue..very frustrating.

I have a 10 digit mobile number also - I took off the first two numbers of my mobile number and it worked for me

I was able to solve this by going to my iTunes account management and added new payment method. After that, I removed the expired credit card. The invalid phone error wasn't flagged.

I don't know why for some reason this is so.

Hi, i had the same problem.

I have fixed it like this:

For example my number: 0123 456 789

Area code: 123

Phone number: 456789

I had the same problem. Changed my payment method to Paypal and put the first 4 numbers of my phone number in the area code box and problem solved. Not sure why, but hey, It worked!

Had the same problem. Fixed it by changing payment info in iTunes on Mac.

Tried the link and still didn't work... But when I entered a phone number which isn't correct (omitted area code) it worked... Apple can never find me with that number...
