El Capitan - How to change Desktop Font Color?

Every item on my Desktop uses a white bold font with a shadow around it. Probably a throwback from an earlier Mac OS that easily allowed you to do such things.

Here in El Capitan, there is no System Preference for changing the COLOR and other attributes (except for size, which I do not care about).

So - does anyone have an idea how to change this - or at list restore it to El Capitan's default by copying a pliust file from a fresh install of El Capitan? (I tried MacPilot - no luck)

There is no control over Desktop font color, nor has there been for nearly two decades. Choose a darker solid background, or an image with darker areas and that drop shadow on the white fonts will be consumed by the background.
