Transpose Rows and Columns does not work.

After following the instructions to use the Transpose Rows and Columns instruction, the instruction remains ghosted, so I cannot accomplish the transposition. I clicked a cell in the table, selected the table (bullseye at top left of table), clicked Table and tried to click on Transpose Rows and Columns. It was ghosted, so it was not clickable. What is wrong? What should I do? Am using Numbers 6.0 on an iMac.

I believe I have at least a partial answer to the problem of the "Transpose Rows and Columns" instruction being ghosted. When I reduced the number of empty rows below the part of the spreadsheet I used, the instruction became usable. So, if the instruction is ghosted when you attempt to use it, try reducing the number of empty rows below.

I am having the same problem and I am just about to save my Numbers spreadsheet as an Excel spreadsheet since I know that will work. I have Numbers 6.1 and I have created a brand new sheet with made up data:

I select the table by selecting a cell and then clicking on the "O" at the upper left:

I then open up the Table Menu and this is what I see; the Menu Item "Transpose Rows and Columns" is not enabled.

This is a total mystery to me and I don't understand why doing this operation should be so difficult and mysterious. It is a standard kind of operation in Excel and it works very well.

There are no hidden rows or columns. There are no formulas. This is about as simple an operation as one could be. What is going on???

@flashman: (these suggestions also apply to your question. So far, we've not seen a response to Ian's earlier post or mine.)

Hi Paul,

Thanks for including the screen shot. The OP says he is using Number 6.0. Are you using 6.0, or a later version?

Have you tried selecting all the cells in the table, copying, then pasting into a blank space in the same sheet or a different sheet. (Numbers will create a new table with the same content as the original).

Can you transpose the new table?

Same exercise, but his time creating a new 'blank' Numbers document, selecting cell A1 of the default table in that document and pasting the values copied from the non transposable table into the new one.

Regards,

Barry
