I’m getting an error message that I need to be on a higher version of safari. How do I do that.

Safari gets upgraded when you upgrade the OS. Which Mac OS are you running and what is the year of your Mac? (Apple menu > About this Mac)

You need to update your IOS. Safari is updated when the IOS is updated. Check to make sure you have the latest version of IOS 12.
