Activation Lock

My old iPad 2 has ‘Activation Lock’ appear on the screen and says it needs password and Apple ID entering that was used to set up this iPad, when entering them it says ‘Incorrect ‘. When Help is opened it states that the “ password is required because it’s owner has used find my iPhone to link it to their Apple ID but this is an old iPad and is not linked to anyone’s ID and nobody has tried to link it.... any ideas how to get out of it please? The iPad could be wiped and restarted but don’t know how to do this!
