Private Browsing Does Not Turn Off

I turned it on and now cannot turn it off. Normally I click the two "squares" in the upper right had corner and then click "done". I do that now and the upper part of the iPad remains dark/grey and I am still in private mode. Any suggestions?

After tapping the two squares have you also tapped 'Private' before tapping 'done' ('done' only exits the screen) ?
