iphone xs max marked as lost or stolen, bought from eBay as brand new, unlocked and sealed.

I bought an Iphone Xs max recently on eBay and it came in brand new, unlocked and sealed. I activated the phone myself so I am sure that it was new. However, after three months the phone was not working anymore and it is marked as lost or stolen. I called my carrier and they said they have no idea who locked it, might be an outside source. I can't contact my seller and the customer services aren't helping. I can't do anything with my phone right now. Does anyone know what seems to be going on? How can I fix this problem?

This is a common scam. Someone purchases a new phone, sells it, waits a while for the trail to grow cold, then reports it lost or stolen and collects from their insurance carrier for a replacement.

Start with ebay and file a claim under their buyer protection policy. If it's too late for that or they refuse the claim, get the police involved.
