icloud email

The iCloud account on my iPhone is associated with an email address I no longer have access to. However it will no let me change it to the updated email in use on other devices because it says that email address is not available. Any ideas?

If they are 2 different iCloud accounts, they are 2 different Apple IDs. Apple IDs can't be merged.
