Apple Hardware Test - How to test fan?
How can I determing if fan in Mac Mini is working?
Swapped out HDD in Mac Mini late 2012 for SDD, and need to test fan to make sure it's working after removal and reconnection.
Apple Hardware Test does NOT work in High Sierra.
According to Dan at iFixIt - "Apple introduced a bug in the firmware and the newer OS's that messes up diagnostics! You found it and so far there is no solution. The issue is within both the OS and the given systems firmware. Different systems react differently as not all of them got the newer firmware and the running OS also is a factor and lastly the file system also effects things."
Holding down D key at startup boots to blank gray screen; holding down Option D produces error - "Cannot Load EFI/DRIVERS/TestSupport.efi" - same error message I initially received with the D boot, but which changed to blank gray screen after reinstalling High Sierra from thumb drive installer.
I have exact same system running on older MacBook Pro 2011and can boot to Apple Hardware Test without any problem. Only difference is that system is running on a SATA HD with HFS+ file system, not on an SSD with APFS file system like with the Mac Mini late 2012.
TG Pro software shows green for good - fan and temperature sensors appear to be working properly, yet when I run TG Pro in Auto Boost mode and set rules for Exhaust to 20% Always, and to 40, 60, 80 and 100% when Highest CPU is above 90º F, fan never runs even though Highest CPU is much higher than 90º.
