imovie updates

I was given this Mac from a friend and changes the administrator to myself and don't have any problem except for iMovie. when I go to download the update it ask me to enter my Apple ID and password but it will NOT let me enter my Apple ID it shows the previous users ID and I can not understand why when I changed everything to me as admin it still show their Apple ID .

Because they didn't prepare the Mac correctly when giving it to you.

im sure they didn't know all that stuff and I wasn't going to pass up a free Mac since I used them on films and video back in the late 90's early 2000 and don't have a Mac service place within 100 miles one way from my home and used a windows machine for 6yrs year until it got hacked that a is the last time I will use windows
