WiFi Calling

I’m currently out of the country. My phone plan does not support international calls. If I turn off my data and turn on WiFi calling, will my phone carrier charge me?

Using Wifi Calling while in Airplane mode I have turned on Wifi Calling on my iPhone SE. I also have my phone in Airplane mode. When I make phone calls I am still being charged by my mobile provider. How does that work? The phone is in Airplane mode and so cannot access any mobile networks - and so the call has to be made through my wifi network. I have spoken to my network provider, Three, and they tell me that Wifi Calling still uses my allowance - but they can't explain to me how this can be possible when my phone is in Airplane mode.

using wifi in Ireland to make calls ATT is my provider. I am wondering if I can use WIFI to call locally when in Ireland and not be charged international fees.

Wi-Fi calling must be support by your carrier, talk to them.

If your iPhone is not carrier locked, try using a local SIM.
