updating to full 64 bit

Now I know that some of the programs are 32bits. How do I update them to 64bit?

It depends on how you acquired the programs. Updates for some are available in Apple menu > App Store > Updates.

For others you will need to go to the website of the developer where you acquired them. Depending on the developer you may need to buy a new version of the program.

If the app isn't something from the Mac App Store and is something you downloaded/installed directly from the developer or similarly, you would need to check the developer site if they talk about a newer version w/ 64-bit support.

If you are talking about App Store apps, you can make sure you do an update as other users have stated, but most apps unless they are in current development / continuing releasing new versions, may not get updated. I have seen very, very few apps that I use actually be updated to 64-bit, and those that do may be releasing new 64-bit releases not available as an update, but as a new purchase.
