Looking at switching to an iPhone, but one item that is key for me - is there the ability to read and write (i.e. send) text messages on an iPhone from my Windows laptop (please don't flame, don't have the ability to switch the OS ... :-)).

There is no way from sending iMessages (or SMS) from a non-Apple device, but you can use third party apps such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger that are multi-platform.
If you are referring to SMS Text messages check with your cell provider, they may have a means to send texts from your computer.
OK, thanks - appreciate the clear answer. Unfortunately it becomes a non-starter for me then. Darn it!
