Security for apple devices

How secure are apple devices?

I don't know if someone has already talked about this subject, but is something that I think apple can improve and make the user/iphone interaction better.

Have you guys lost an iphone? I know it sucks and many of us use find my iphone to find our lost device, which helps a lot, and I have recovered an IPad using it.

But that only happens if, your phone is connected to wi-fi or cellular data, and that is kind of obvious because of the live location that the device has to provide in order for you to find it.

The problem is, if the phone gets stolen, the person that stole the phone should not have access to the wi-fi or the cellular data on/off options from the lock screen. Because if the person turns off those settings you won't be able to find your phone again.

Some people claim that apple does it on purpose so that you spend money to buy a new phone, or to increase revenue for its insurance, but I don't think applecare covers for stolen devices, if anyone know please drop your comment below.

What I think apple can do is, if the phone is locked no one should have access to those settings. I know some people will say, "What about if I wanna turn it on/off quickly?". The answer is simple, you could still do it from the lock screen but you should use Face ID, your passcode, or fingerprint (which I want apple to include to their new phones, using the lock button, which some competitors do, just a suggestion), and not how it is done now, that you turn it off even when its locked.

My friend lost his IPhone X recently and even with find my IPhone he could not find it, because the phone is not connected to the internet. Obviously if someone stole it, he/she will not connect to the internet and its obvious, because they will give away the location.

Another suggestion for apple improving the security is, if your phone is lost and you forget to leave cellular data on, or even if it's on but you don't have data, is that your phone should be able to capture your motions, memorize how you use the phone, in order for the phone to detect if another person is using or even if it's seating somewhere without activity.

If your phone detects that info, it could automatically connect to internet and just send an location "update" every 12 hours maybe. And you could change the settings on find my iphone, to start seeing the live location of the device, once that "update" was sent. Also the ability of connecting to any wifi it becomes in contact (in case of the SIM card has been removed).

These are very hard procedures because they can have extra charges with mobile carriers, new tech, etc.

I think someone at apple probably has thought about this, but since I new update is coming I would like for apple to review this and maybe give us a feedback.

Thank you.

Your logic can be used for anything that can be stolen from you.

Of course nobody wants to have anything stolen from them. Of course nobody wants to buy another item to replace the one stolen from you.

That is a desire around since we have owned things that can be stolen.

Why is the burden to stop this on phone manufacturers and not camera manufacturers? Car manufacturers? Televisons?

Apple provides a technology to help "find" your misplaced phone. It is not called or marketed as "retrieve" your phone. People have been killed pursuing their device using the location found in Find My Phone.

Your frustration for your friend's experience is understandable. Lashing out at Apple is not.

How can they "improve" the security of a $1000+ device that fits in your pocket and everybody wants?

Truth is, activation lock has reduced the value of a lost/stolen device to zero. The market is less lucrative then before activation lock.
